The Emergency Animal Clinic (EAC) is offering 8 positions for a 12-month emergency and critical care focused rotating internship starting June 17th, 2016. Interns will spend time working alongside an ACVECC diplomate in a multi-specialty small animal referral hospital. A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care (DACVECC) and experienced emergency clinicians will provide supervision while the intern is on emergency duty. Cage-side rounds are held daily with a DACVECC present. The intern will spend time rotating with multiple specialists, including emergency & critical care, internal medicine, cardiology, radiology, surgery and ophthalmology. Additional elective rotations available include oncology/radiation oncology, neurology, dermatology, dentistry/oral surgery and shelter medicine. Selected candidates are expected to participate in journal club, weekly topic seminars, morbidity & mortality rounds, present at least one seminar to the staff clinicians and are encouraged to submit a manuscript for publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. Interns will spend time working primary emergency shifts out of the 5 clinics located throughout the major Phoenix metropolitan area. Interns will be encouraged to perform emergency surgeries (GDV, hemoabdomen, gastrotomies, enterotomies, C-section, laceration repair, etc.) with supervision by a DACVECC or experienced emergency clinician. We have extensive diagnostic and treatment capabilities including an in-house laboratory (CBC, biochemistry, blood gases, coagulation analyzer), basic and advanced monitoring equipment (direct/indirect arterial BP, ETCO2, CVP, ECG, pulse oximetry), mechanical ventilator (both anesthetic and long-term ventilator), defibrillator, digital radiography, ultrasound, CT, MRI, stereotactic radiation and endoscopy. All radiographs are read by board-certified radiologists.
