About the AAVC

The American Association of Veterinary Clinicians has supported and enhanced veterinary postgraduate clinical training and academic medicine since 1958. For more than 65 years, we have worked to advance the profession by investing in the people who practice and teach it.

Our role is to support, educate, and connect — not to regulate or certify. We provide tools, programs, and resources that help the academic veterinary community thrive, from house officers beginning their training through faculty building a career in teaching and research.

That work takes several forms. We sponsor the Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program, which brings structure and fairness to how graduates find training positions. We host professional development and leadership conferences for residents and early-career faculty. We recognize excellence through annual awards. And we convene department heads and hospital directors from institutions across the country to share best practices and shape the field’s direction.

The AAVC is led by an Executive Committee of volunteers drawn from member institutions, supported by a full-time Executive Director who ensures continuity across leadership teams.

The AAVC sponsors and oversees the VIRMP as part of this broader mission. The program operates under the same commitment to fairness and transparency that guides the organization’s work.
