The goal of this program is to provide a supportive learning environment that will prepare interns for a residency program in internal medicine.

Additional Information about this Program
Toronto Animal Health Partners Emergency and Specialty Hospital is offering two (2) positions in the internal medicine internship program. The service is supported by 2 internists. In addition to internal medicine, the clinic offers a 24/7 emergency service and specialty services in critical care, neurology, surgery, cardiology and oncology with accredited specialists in those areas. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the internal medicine service. This is a strong clinical internship with an emphasis on one-on-one interaction with specialists. Patient service rounds are held daily and grand rounds/journal club are held weekly. Two weeks of vacation and two weeks elective time are provided.Our goal is to provide a high quality intern experience that will be valuable to those who wish to pursue a residency in internal medicine. Previous internal medicine interns have been successful in obtaining residency positions. Candidates are encouraged to visit the Animal Health Partners to familiarize themselves with the hospital and the internship program, but a visit is not mandatory. Candidates may be contacted for a telephone or video interview.Toronto is a diverse, energetic and safe metropolitan centre on the shores of Lake Ontario. The city offers a multitude of recreational and cultural opportunities. A work visa and Ontario veterinary license are easy to obtain for those successful candidates coming from the United States or Mexico. Candidates should be graduates of an AVMA accredited institution or have completed all portions of the NAVLE and should have completed a small animal rotating internship or have equivalent work experience.

Interns typically work a 4-5 day work week, and then have alternating weekends of evaluating in hospital internal medicine patients (which is typically less than 50% of the time). All in hospital time is dedicated to the internal medicine service (other than electives), but there is opportunity to shadow other services on the day the intern is not assigned to IM if they choose.
