UF Shelter Medicine Internship

University of Florida Veterinary Medicine

The goal of this internship is to produce a skilled practitioner well-equipped for a leadership position in a shelter practice or to be competitive for a residency program in Shelter Medicine. A core component of the internship is primary medical, behavioral, and surgical care of patients in Florida shelters. The clinical rotations are combined with didactic courses focusing on shelter medical and behavioral practices, community cat management, high-quality/high-volume spay/neuter surgery and other surgeries common to shelter practice, forensics, diagnosis and management of disease outbreaks, and disaster response.
