Additional Information about Program

The Veterinary Emergency Clinic/ Referral Centre of Toronto is offering seven positions in the rotating small animal internship program. The Centre is a dynamic multispecialty & emergency practice. We have accredited specialists in anesthesia, emergency & critical care, neurology, cardiology, ophthalmology, internal medicine, oncology, surgery, anesthesia and dermatology. We offer 24 hour care and a busy and challenging emergency practice. Successful candidates will have mandatory rotations in medicine, oncology, surgery, neurology, cardiology, and emergency/critical care with opportunities for electives in the other clinical specialties. This is a strong clinical internship with an emphasis on one-on-one interaction with specialists. Intern rounds are provided four times a week. In addition interns are required to present grand rounds and case rounds throughout the year. Two weeks of electives (to be taken in one week blocks and approved by the internship) are allowed during the year. Our goal is to provide a high quality intern experience that will be valuable to those who wish to practice general veterinary medicine at the highest level or to those who wish to pursue a residency in a clinical specialty. Previous interns have been successful in obtaining residency and specialty internship positions, both with academic institutions and with private practices. Candidates are encouraged to visit the VEC to familiarize themselves with the hospital and the internship program, but a visit is not mandatory. Candidates may be contacted for a telephone interview. The VEC is located in downtown Toronto. Toronto is a diverse, energetic and safe metropolitan centre on the shores of Lake Ontario. The city offers a multitude of recreational and cultural opportunities. A work visa and Ontario veterinary license are easy to obtain for those successful candidates coming from the United States. Candidates should be graduates of an AVMA accredited institution or have completed all portions of the NAVLE in order to practice in Ontario.
