Additional Information about Program

The Regional Veterinary Referral Center (RVRC) is one of the oldest and most well respected veterinary specialty centers in Washington D.C./Northern Virginia area. Our motto ‘We Love Them like You Do’ is where it begins and ends with us, remembering that each patient we care for is loved and is special to someone. Our goal is to offer outstanding, compassionate, empathetic and professional veterinary specialty care and we rely on our interns to be an integral part of our team. Simply stated, we offer the very best care to our patients while understanding the client’s needs and tailoring the care offered to meet these needs. The RVRC is centrally located near Washington DC and receives referrals from across the Mid-Atlantic region. We offer specialty care in: cardiology, emergency/critical care, internal medicine, surgery, dermatology, neurology, radiation oncology, and rehabilitative medicine with a licensed veterinary physical therapist. In addition to our specialties, our center houses an I-131 treatment center (Radiocat), in house cytopathology, digital radiography, linear accelerator, 3D Spiral CT and a MRI unit. As an intern at the RVRC, you will work closely with each service. You will spend approximately 50% of your time on emergency and critical care and the remainder of your time on rotations on the other in house services as well as external rotations in anesthesia and ophthalmology. Elective rotations in exotics medicine and shelter medicine are also available. As an intern, your primary case responsibilities will occur while on emergency and critical care. You will work closely with our dedicated staff of emergency clinicians and specialists with ample back-up during times when you are ‘on your own’. There is no on-call duty. When you’re off, you’re off! Our interns do perform surgical procedures under the guidance of our staff doctors while on emergency. This is an advantage to you as an intern and not offered in other programs. Our in house diagnostic center allows you to get rapid and accurate patient analytic data to make informed patient decisions. As an intern you will perform all emergency procedures and will be involved in case decisions from start to finish. Interns will participate in weekly topic rounds discussions and present one grand rounds presentation. As an intern, you will often be the only intern on any given rotation giving you the unique opportunity of one-on-one time with that specialist. We are located near Washington DC which offers a thriving metropolitan environment full of cultural, historical, music and entertainment opportunities along with an active night life. A Virginia license is REQUIRED, there are no exceptions. You are welcome to visit and interview and are encouraged to do so. Phone interviews will be arranged for those eligible applicants unable to visit for on-site interview. Additional information can be found on our website: http://www.vetreferralcenter.com/
