The American Association of Veterinary Clinicians (AAVC) conceived this listing as a means of disseminating internship and residency information to the profession to stimulate the interest of senior students and recent graduates in these programs. The necessity for postgraduate training in the clinical sciences has become acutely obvious as new colleges have been established, clinical departments expanded and the quality of veterinary education improved. The need for well-trained educators and practicing specialists is obvious, and it is our sincere belief that these programs have made a significant contribution to the profession. The rapid establishment and expansion of the specialty colleges have been made possible by these training programs and the AAVC is committed to the expansion and improvement of education in the clinical sciences.

The Internship Matching Program, initiated in 1978, alleviated recurring problems associated with varying appointment dates and unnecessary pressures placed on applicants. We believe that this program has been of benefit to all concerned and has stimulated affirmative action and equal opportunity.

The success of the Intern Matching Program stimulated a computerized matching program to include residencies. Details of the program are included in the following pages.

Adequate information is included to allow interested applicants to have an understanding of the programs offered and participate in the matching program but, in many instances, a full description of the program and responsibilities of the participants are not presented. We encourage you to contact the identified authorized administrative official of those programs in which you are interested for additional information. This website includes samples of the forms that will be made available to you by the authorized administrative official at the participating institutions and practices.

Please note that with the development of this online listing, the hard copy directory is no longer being published.
